This warehouse, located in Amsterdam’s Eastern Docklands, was transformed into an apartment building in the late 1980s. Residents of the apartments on the top floor took the opportunity to build an additional floor with a private roof terrace. Sightlines and sunlight in the atrium of the apartment building determined the shape of the superstructure. The facades and roof are clad in zinc, in order to preserve the character of the building and require little maintenance. Durable and easily installed wall and roof elements were also used. The superstructure is the same for each apartment, the layout of the existing floor and the superstructure can be determined individually.
