WALDORP FOUR

Residential towers with city plinth

The Hague, Netherlands

Paul de Ruiter Architects

On a narrow strip of land by the railroad, between The Hague Hollands Spoor and Laakhaven-West, one of The Hague’s biggest building projects, The Waldorp Four, will soon start. With approximately 70,000m2 of building there, the old shadowy streetwalking zone will be transformed into a vibrant and safe urban boulevard. There will be a plinth of almost 300 meters with stores, restaurants and creative workshops. On top will be four residential towers from 44 to 77 meters high with about 800 homes. The homes are designed for different target groups and range from affordable rental housing for students and starters to exclusive penthouses with breathtaking views of the city.

The building block has a high degree of sustainability, and noise pollution from the railroad and street is reduced to a minimum in the homes through the use of high-quality materials. The collective roof gardens, called “Hanging Gardens,” will be landscaped with climbing plants, shrub vegetation and spectacular hanging trees. Here residents can relax and meet each other.
