OVERAMSTEL

Urban planning study

Weespertrekvaart Noord, Amsterdam, Netherlands

A study of the northern part of the Overamstel area was conducted at the invitation of the Spatial Planning Department.

The block is like a meander converging on the high-rise side. The tension between high-rise and low-rise ensures that the building fits in with its dynamic surroundings, a place where water, railroads and buildings converge. In choosing to stack various housing typologies, optimal use has been made of sunlight and views. On the railroad side, the gallery-access homes form a sound barrier. On the other side, the porch-accessed dwellings vary in depth, creating an interesting stacking of terraces on the courtyard garden.
